DTPEDULI.ORG | BANJARMASIN - Joy radiated from the faces of the residents of Yayasan Uma Kandung Banjarmasin on Saturday (09/05/2026). The Student Association of the Medical Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in collaboration with Daarut Tauhiid (DT) Peduli South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan) successfully organized a collaborative program called "PELITA" which stands for Peduli Lansia (Care for the Elderly) and Taut Cerita (Sharing Stories).

This activity aims to provide special attention to the physical and mental health of the elderly, while serving as a platform for social service for future doctors.

The series of activities proceeded warmly and educationally. The event began at 07.00 WITA with mobilization of all committee members to the location. The activities were arranged in such a way to maintain fitness and emotional closeness between students and the elderly.

First, Joint Morning Exercise Activity guided by Instructors Farel and Ringgi. The elderly appeared enthusiastic in following light exercise movements designed to maintain joint flexibility.

Second, Unlimited Creativity. Entering 08.10 WITA, the "Craft Making" session became the most memorable moment. The elderly were accompanied by Group Coordinators (PJ) (Valen, Ahel, Aiswah, Ammar, Cikal, and friends) to create simple handmade works that train fine motor skills.

Third, Taut Cerita (Sharing Session). In line with the program's name, this session became a space for the elderly to share life experiences and chat intimately with the students.

Fourth, Free Health Checkup. As the core of medical service, comprehensive health examinations were conducted for one hour. The health team consisting of Alam, Akmal, and Sheva were responsible for checking blood pressure, while Ama, Yasmin, and Valen provided GCU (Glucose, Cholesterol, Uric Acid) examinations.

The activity concluded at 10.15 WITA with the distribution of healthy refreshments and a joint documentation session as a memento.

"I'm so happy that today we had many visitors, the grandchildren from ULM's Medical Program. Usually it's quiet, but this morning we were invited to exercise and make crafts. My body feels fresher, especially after having my blood pressure and blood sugar checked for free. Thank you for caring about us here," said Rohimah, an elderly resident (71) who was one of the participants.

Similarly, Anwar Haris (78 years old), another participant, also expressed his feelings about participating in the series of activities. "Alhamdulillah, we are very happy to be able to participate in this activity. Being able to gather, exercise, share stories, have health checkups, and chat together made our hearts happy and joyful. The atmosphere was fun, full of laughter, and felt like family. Thank you to all parties who organized this event. May the goodness be rewarded with blessings and health for us all," he said.

This program is a collaborative initiative that combines aspects of preventive medical examination with a psychosocial approach to improve the quality of life for the elderly in nursing homes and social foundations.
