Flowing Goodness: sedekah in Honor of Our Parents

Parents are the gates of paradise that Allah has presented in our lives. Every prayer of theirs accompanies our steps, every sacrifice they make shapes who we are today. Therefore, there is no more beautiful way to repay their love than by channeling goodness in their name. Sedekah in the name of parents is a manifestation of devotion that transcends words, a love brought forth in real action, whether they are still with us or have already gone before Him.

In a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari and Muslim, a companion asked the Prophet ﷺ that his mother had passed away suddenly and he suspected his mother wanted to give sedekah; he then asked whether there would be reward for him if he gave sedekah in the name of his mother. The Prophet ﷺ answered, "Yes." From this, the scholars explain that sedekah intended in the name of parents will, God willing, reach them. Imagine, dear Friend, with just a little from the sustenance you set aside, you are gifting an act of goodness that flows for your beloved Father and Mother.

Every meal for an orphan child, every assistance for dhuafa families, every basic need fulfilled for those in need, all of it becomes a treasure of goodness that you present in the name of your parents. This is the bridge of goodness that connects your devotion with blessings for others, a love that never breaks even as time continues to flow.
